The beauty of being ‘lost’

‘Lost’ is the place where we feel most alone, yet the place that we all have been to. Little do we know that many of us have been there at the same time, though we have been blinded by our clouded thoughts and lonesome hearts. When entering this state of being ‘lost’, it can be really draining, even if we are not overthinking, our thoughts may be sparse yet carry densities that are plenty to weigh us down.

So why does one become lost?

Maybe you’ve been rejected from that job offer or didn’t receive that promotion you really thought had your name written all over it. Maybe you’ve broke up from a relationship or drifted away from that friend that you truly thought was going to last a lifetime. Maybe someone close to you has passed, or you live in fear of what the future holds. Maybe you’ve lost touch with what once was such a passion for you or been all too consumed by the world of work. Maybe you’re struggling to find time to balance everything or miss the endless smiles when spending time with friends. Or maybe you simply don’t know what you want to do with your life, what road you should take, or who you should listen to…

Becoming so-called ‘lost’ actually indicates a state of being in touch with the space of ‘now’. It is rather a good sign since you are not following the crowd; you are creating your own path and walking it without knowing where it can lead. One may feel directionless, but in reality, following your heart is never an easy road or straight line. One needs to travel to blurry places to find the epicentre of beauty within them. And what comes out of that is worth every second. It is worth every blood, sweat, and tear. We don’t realise this until after.

So feeling lost is very much part of everyone’s journey. Because a journey, theoretically, does not have one destination. A journey leads to many destinations, most of which are unknown. So yes, feeling lost is inevitable. Sometimes it’s the case of following the heart; other times it’s the case of following the gut; either way, you will make it to where you are supposed to be. Being lost is a sign you need to dig deep, because little do you know, you are heading to places bigger than you thought you’d ever be…
